Movement Education

I am in movement education class right now and I absolutely love it. It's a fun class to take just because not only do you learn about basic body movements, but you actually get up and utilize them. It's not set in a regular classroom so you actually get up and move around. A professor at my school also brings in a group of younger kids once a week to join in to one of her movement ed classes because the class is geered toward younger aged children performing basic movements. Although you already know how to these movements, it's fun because you make up routines with your partners or community.

Physical Educator vs. Gym Teacher

Most people have heard about the movie Mr. Woodcock, and some people believe that is actually how a physical education class might run in a typical high school. Many people have the assumption that all a gym teacher does is throw out a ball to his/her students and watch them play dodgeball, basketball, or another common sport. Those who believe being a physical educator is easy might want to look into the subject matter a little more. Not only do physical education majors go through the same amount of college as any other teacher, they must have a high GPA to be accepted into the College of Education. I know I have come across many people in my life that say, "oh you're gonna be a gym teacher" and I just think in my head if they even knew the time and energy a person puts into becoming a physical educator, they would not say its just a gym teacher.

Smartboards in every classroom?

When I was a senior in high school, our school had purchased a number of smartboards for specific classrooms. I used mine in math class, but should every classroom have the chance to have a smartboard? Smart board is an interactive white board which we used quite a bit in my class. Everyday we would put answers to homework on the board, the teacher would use it to show a problem we might have had a question on, or we would use it for a fun day to play Deal or No Deal. I think every classroom should have a chance to use and experience a smartboard, but not all schools have the money. If you can, write a grant and see if you can atleast get enough to purchase one. You could put it in a school conference room or something to that extent and each teacher can have a class in that room so the kids and teachers can experience it.

My Webpage Experience

For technology class I had to research and design my own webpage about epilepsy and let me tell you, making a webpage is not an easy thing to do. First, you have to do all your research about the topic, but make sure you remember where you got your info so you can cite your sources. After you think you have enough info, you have to break it all up into your different pages and start designing each individual page. Once you have everything designed and what not, you have to link all the pages together! It was a very long process, but the whole lesson was cool. Now if I ever want to make a webpage for my classes, I have the knowledge to compose a simple webpage.

Networking and sex offenders?

Between May 1, 2008 and January 31, 2009 there have been approximately 5,500 sex offenders removed from the website Facebook. Also, another networking website, MySpace, announced they had also removed 9,000 sex offenders from their website. These sites were initially made to provide a way to network across the country and world, but it soon turned into a place for teens to talk to their friend, meet new people, and possibly be stalked by a convicted sex offenders. These offenders were caught by using local authorities, user reports, and the sex offfender registry. Unlike MySpace, Facebook requires you to use your real name for your account which may defer sex offenders from registering an account. A proposal has been pitched to cross-reference everyone that registers with the sex offender website before approving the account that is being made.
